NEW ZEALAND RIVER JET BOATING

The New Zealand river jet boating experience is unique to the country - in fact the first jet boat was invented here by William Hamilton in 1957. New Zealand river jet boating has since become a great Kiwi activity and has opened up many otherwise inaccessible areas of New Zealand - one of these being the Waimakariri River home of Waimak Alpine Jet.

Waimak Alpine Jet operates New Zealand river jet boating tours for locals and visitors in the upper reaches of the glacier-fed Waimakariri River.

The Waimakariri River, or the Waimak as it is called by the locals, was named by a native New Zealand Maori tribe meaning "River of Cold Rushing Water". The Waimak travels a total distance of 190 kilometers - from its birthplace in the rugged Southern Alps through steep rock faces and thick native forest out to the Pacific Ocean. The crystal clear waters of the river often allow views of the salmon and rainbow/brown trout. The Waimak is one of the most jet boated rivers in New Zealand and you will quickly understand why, as the spectacular scenery unfolds before you.

The world famous Tranz Alpine™ rail line runs atop the Waimakariri River canyon walls parallel to the river. The Tranz Scenic™ train tour is awarded one of the top six rail journeys in the world.

Your New Zealand river jet boating driver will undertake manoeuvres during tours that are only possible in a jet boat - one of them being the HAMILTON 360º spin. Hold on as the boat is spun out at full cruising speed and feel the awesome handling ability of the jet boat!

Although river jet boating is an exciting activity, ample time is allowed for you to simply relax and enjoy the magnificent surroundings. The jet boat driver's commentary and many great photo opportunities will fulfill your New Zealand jet boating experience!
